The Kawsar-e Danish suicide bombing happened on the evening of October 24, 2020, when a suicide bomber blows himself up near an education center in the Dashte Barchi area of Kabul. Killing 24 and wounded 57 others¹. Most of the victims were students, aged between 15 and 26 years². TOLONews reported 30 killed and 70 others wounded³.

History

Kawsar-e Danish is a National University Exam prep center that served more than 1000 students on daily basis⁴. The center is located in Dasht-e Barchi, Police District 13 (PD13)⁵ of Kabul City.

Bombing

On 24 October 2020, at 4:30 PM AFT ⁶ ⁷ when hundreds of students were attending the Kawsar-e Danish education center in Kabul. A suicide bomber detonated his explosives when he is stopped at the entrance of the center⁸.

Perpetrators

ISIS claimed responsibility via Telegram. The Taliban spokesperson denied responsibility for the attack⁹ ¹⁰.

Victims

The victims were young school students, aged between 15 and 26 years¹¹. One of the victims, Ghulam Abbas Ramazani (pictured), was hoping to attend medical school¹². BBC Farsi published the names and stories of four victims.

Reaction and response

Reaction

The United Nations Security Council issued a press statement condemning the attack and stated¹³.

The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Afghanistan and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.
