TROUBLE IN AFGHANISTAN
LONDON, AUGUST 8.

Latest news from Afghanistan shows that the condition of affairs there is becoming serious. Following on the Hazara revolt the Uzbeck tribes, on the Northern frontier, are also rising against the Ameer, and fears are entertained by the Indian Government that there will shortly be a general disruption at Afghanistan.

The Northampton Regisment, stationed at Aldershot, has been ordered to prepare for service in India.[^Maryborough] [^Toowoomba]

The Times, in revewing the situation in Afghanistan this morning, says that the Indian Government are fully alive to the dangers which threaten the empire, and recognising that they have a delicate task set them, will only employ their best officers in the negotiations.

LONDON, AUGUST 9.
News has been received here to the effect that the Kazara (Hazara) rebellion is increasing in extent, and all the great tribes have joined in the revolt. The Ameer of Afghanistan has, however, raised 40,000 troops, and is obtaining other levies by promising them a division of the Hazara’s land when rising suppresed.
